How adventure importing works
What happens when I add an adventure?
Viscanon reads the file in your browser and proposes chapters, locations, characters, scenes, boxed text, and artwork. The original PDF stays on your device and is never stored on our servers. Nothing is added to your campaign until you review the results and choose what to import.
How does artwork review work?
Eligible images embedded in a PDF and reachable images linked from Markdown appear with Viscanon’s suggested destination. For each image, choose its artwork type or ignore it, then assign it to a matching entry or leave it unassigned. If a Markdown image link cannot be loaded, you can add that image manually later.
What if Viscanon does not know where an image belongs?
Leave the checked image Unassigned and Viscanon will save it as a temporary entry. You can review it later, rename it, or use Transfer artwork to move it to the right entry. Vector artwork and unusually encoded PDF images may still require a manual upload.
Can I add the images after importing?
Yes. Large adventures can have more artwork than you can confidently assign during review. Download the ZIP of images Viscanon found in a PDF or fetched from Markdown links during artwork review or after import, organized into chapter folders when chapters are detected, and add them to Locations, Characters, and Scenes later. The ZIP stays available in this browser until you clear the saved import. Vector artwork and unusually encoded PDF images may still need to be exported separately.
What should I check before importing?
Confirm names, entry types, chapters, location relationships, boxed text, and every image assignment. Clear selections you do not want. You can edit imported entries later from their profile pages.
How does my feedback improve the importer?
Viscanon is consistently improving the way it parses adventures, but it’s not perfect, and some files can be trickier than others. After importing, you can rate the result and identify the kinds of corrections it needed. Viscanon records structural counts and correction types, without copying the filename, adventure text, or images into feedback analytics.
Which files work best?
PDFs with selectable text, Markdown, and plain text work best. If you cannot highlight words in a PDF, convert it to a searchable PDF before importing. Clean headings and numbered locations produce the strongest results.

Extraction can miss entries or merge text. Open Review text to compare public text and GM notes with your source. These checks cannot identify every missing NPC or spoiler.
Check missing or incomplete entries
For missing entries or incorrect chapters, correct headings in a copy of your Markdown source and choose that file again before importing. For PDF files, prepare a corrected Markdown copy or omit affected entries and add them manually after import. Choosing a file starts a new review.
